Free Medical Exam

Goals of the Building Trades National Medical Screening Program

  • To provide workers with an evaluation of their health status as it relates to their DOE work history.
  • To detect illnesses or health conditions for early referral and treatment.
  • To identify health risks for diseases which could develop in the future.
  • To educate workers on ways to reduce risk factors and how to protect their health.
  • To contribute to the overall health and well-being of former DOE workers.

Occupational Medical Screening Program (Free Medical Exam)

BTMed offers annual screening for lung cancer to eligible participants at high risk for lung cancer. BTMed uses low-dose helical computed tomography (CT) scans to detect lung cancer at an early stage, when treatment is more effective.

Early Lung Cancer Detection (ELCD) Program (Free CT Scan)

BTMed offers annual screening for lung cancer to eligible workers at high risk for lung cancer. BTMed uses low-dose helical computed tomography (CT) scans to detect lung cancer at an early stage, when treatment is more effective.

Future Protections

Information gathered through the program may also benefit the health and safety of current and future workers by looking for trends to identify work-related health risks and make recommendations to strengthen occupational and preventive health care and to improve worker protection within DOE facilities.

Compensation

The screening exam provides a summary of medical findings and recommendations for follow-up care and information on how to apply for benefits under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA) or state workers' compensation programs when appropriate. BTMed does not provide compensation to participants.
